  28.    WILDCAT! makes extensive use of menuing throughout the system.  After
  29.    completion of the login process, you are placed at this, the Main Menu.
  30.    From here you have a wide selection of functions as well as various
  31.    sub-menus.  These sub-menus contain information relative to their
  32.    function.  For example, the Message Menu is used for everything related to
  33.    messages and the Files Menu allows uploading and downloading and so on.

  35.    The menuing structure is setup to facilitate easy transition from one
  36.    menu to another, often without having to return to the Main Menu.  Below
  37.    is a list of available options from the Main Menu.

  39.  ╒═ [W]......Who Else is Online ═╕

  41.      Selecting this choice in a multi-line system, presents you with a list
  42.      of callers who are presently logged on, their respective node numbers
  43.      and their current status.  If a node is up but has no one logged on at
  44.      the moment, it is reported as "Waiting for Calls".

  48.      If a multi-node system is in operation, this choice will allow you to
  49.      enter into PRIVATE or public GROUP chat with callers on the other
  50.      nodes.  Additional help is available after selecting this option.

  52.  ╒═ [J].......Join a Conference ═╕

  54.      This command is used to leave the current conference and move to
  55.      another.  A conference is simply a section of the BBS with a single
  56.      message base different from any other conference.  A certain conference
  57.      may or may not allow file transfers depending on the configuration.  If
  58.      allowed, file transfers may draw files from any area you have access
  59.      to, even if it's from another conference.  Additional information is
  60.      available after selecting this option.

  64.      This option takes you directly to the Message Menu.  The Message Menu
  65.      allows you to read/reply to your messages both public and private.

  69.      Takes you directly to the File Menu where file uploads and downloads

  74.      This choice enables you to enter a private message to the system
  75.      operator.  WILDCAT! makes these comments an integral part of the
  76.      message base for easy reply by the SysOp, if desired.  If the BBS has
  77.      Echomail, you need to be very careful not to save the comment in one of
  78.      those conferences.  Instead, comments to the SysOp should be saved in
  79.      one of the local conferences.

  81.  ╒═ [B]...........Bulletin Menu ═╕

  83.      The Bulletin menu could be considered a sub-menu of sorts, in that it
  84.      presents you with the options of reading one or more bulletins by
  85.      selecting a bulletin number, re-listing the bulletins that are
  86.      available for display, or simply returning to the Main Menu. If any
  87.      bulletins have been updated since your last logon, you will be
  88.      presented a with a listing of those bulletins by number similar to
  89.      below.

  98.                This will display in numerical order, only those bulletins
  99.                that have been updated since your last call to the BBS.  If
  100.                more than one bulletin has been updated, you will be prompted
  101.                as shown below.

  105.      You can then continue reading the newly updated bulletins, or enter
  106.      [N]o to return to the Main Menu.  Depending on the system configuration,
  107.      bulletins may vary depending on which conference you are currently in.

  111.      This selection is used to page the system operator.  The response of
  112.      the local system may vary depending on whether the current time is
  113.      within the SysOp's paging hours, whether the override toggle is on, and
  114.      whether the page bell is turned on or off.  If the conditions allow,
  115.      the BBS will then send a series of beeps to notify the SysOp that
  116.      someone is online and would like to chat with him/her.

  118.      Pages are only made if the time falls within the SysOps defined paging
  119.      hours.  Please try and be courteous and not over use this function.
  120.      You won't make friends paging the SysOp at 3 am.

  124.      This option re-displays the information you saw when you initially
  125.      logged on to the BBS.  This is useful for reviewing some information
  126.      that you might have previously overlooked, thus saving you from having
  127.      to logoff and log back on again.

  131.      You are presented with a menu screen containing numbered listings of
  132.      questionnaires made available by the SysOp.  Select the desired
  133.      questionnaire to answer.  Depending on the system configuration, it's
  134.      possible for questionnaires to vary depending on what conference you're
  135.      currently in.

  139.      This option allows you to enter in a complete user name to check and
  140.      see when was the last time they called the BBS.  If the name you
  141.      entered was not found, you are prompted if you would like to continue
  142.      the search using the information supplied.  If you continue, the system
  143.      will start displaying user names with the search based upon the users
  144.      last names.  Searches for user names are case insensitive.

  148.      With this option, you are allowed to make changes to certain information
  149.      in your user record.  When selected, a complete screen of your modifiable
  150.      settings is displayed.  You then have the ability to change various
  151.      personal information like your phone number, computer type etc, plus
  152.      preference settings when using the BBS.  Additional help is available
  153.      after selecting this option.

  155.  ╒═ [S].......System Statistics ═╕

  157.      This menu choice displays statistical information about the system.  It
  158.      may be a simple summary of the number of callers and the date the
  159.      system began, or may go into extreme detail with percentages of callers
  160.      at each baud rate and include graphs of system time usage, frequently
  161.      downloaded files and so on.

  165.      You are presented with a complete list of users on the system,
  166.      displayed in alphabetical order, along with the date they last called,
  167.      their calling point of origin and PC type.  If you are currently in a
  168.      Alias type conference, instead of displaying regular user names, only
  169.      the Alias names will be shown.  The usual screen pauses are in effect
  170.      while using this option.

  172.  ╒═ [D]...Doors - Live Programs ═╕

  174.      The door feature in WILDCAT! allows you to run other programs made
  175.      available by the SysOp through a menu choice.  Doors can be almost any
  176.      type of online program ranging from database type programs to multi-
  177.      player games.

  181.      This menu choice displays information supplied by the SysOp and can be
  182.      a variety of different types of information.  Whenever this information
  183.      has been updated, upon login, you will automatically be notified and
  184.      asked if you would like to view it.

  186.  ╒═ [G].......Goodbye & Log-Off ═╕

  188.      Terminates the current connection and disconnects.  If your current
  189.      Help level is set to the NOVICE mode, choosing this option gives you a
  190.      way to "back out" of the command.  Selecting this command brings up a
  191.      friendly question, "Are you sure you want to logoff?".  If you respond
  192.      with a "Y", then normal logoff procedures are begun.  Otherwise,
  193.      WILDCAT! will assume the command has been entered in error, and will
  194.      return to current menu.

  196.      If your current help level settings are set to REGULAR or EXPERT, this
  197.      extra prompt will no longer be displayed.  WILDCAT! assumes that you
  198.      know the commands well enough to deliberately wish to logoff.  This
  199.      command is available in ALL major menus and performs exactly the same
  200.      in each of them.

  204.      WILDCAT! supports three different levels of menu prompts.  Selecting
  205.      this option presents the following sub-prompt:

  207.           Current help level is set at: NOVICE

  209.           [N]ovice  : Complete menus, full command line.
  210.           [R]egular : No menus, command line only.
  211.           [E]xpert  : No menus or command line.

  215.           Below is a explanation of the above options.
  216.  
  217.           [N]ovice -
  218.                The first and default value for new users is the Novice
  219.                level.  At this level, the user is presented with full,
  220.                dynamic monochrome or color menus, and a command line
  221.                prompt containing the name of current menu area (Main,
  222.                Message, File) and the first character for a particular
  223.                option in the current menu.  The characters presented agree
  224.                with the letter designator selected for that option.

  226.           [R]egular -
  227.                This is the second level.  At this level, only the current
  228.                conference number/description, time and command line option
  229.                letter designator's are displayed.  No menus are displayed at
  230.                this level.  Shown below is a sample display prompt.

  236.                The final and highest level is the Expert level.  At this
  237.                level, only the current conference number and description
  238.                along with the menu name is displayed.  Shown below is a
  239.                sample display prompt.

  243.                Selecting this level requires a reasonable understanding of
  244.                all the options.  It's primarily designed for speed.  If at
  245.                any time you forget what a certain option letter is, pressing
  246.                [?] at any of the menus will present you with a HELP screen
  247.                showing all the possible options.

  249.                The HELP LEVEL command is available in ALL major menus and
  250.                the usage is exactly the same in each of them.
